Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi on Sunday justified functions organised to felicitate him, saying they were not just meant to honour him for his achievements and contributions, but also to prod him to work with vigour for the welfare of people.
Addressing a function organised by the Sanga Tamil Peravai to honour him for his contribution to the Tamil language and society, the Chief Minister urged senior party leaders, Ministers in the State and at the Centre, MLAs and MPs to work with discipline, dignity and vigour for the welfare of people. “It is not adequate that I alone work with fervour. You should also work.”
Taking a cue from Law Minister and president of the peravai, Durai Murugan, who came down on critics of the function, the Chief Minister said the objective of the event was not to tell him to retire as he had accomplished his tasks.
“Retirement is my personal matter and I will announce when to retire. The functions will serve as an impetus to carry forward the agenda of Anna (former Chief Minister C.N. Annadurai),” he added.
External Affairs Minister S.M. Krishna said the inclusive government and inclusive agendas of Mr. Karunanidhi were a role model for many Chief Ministers in the country.
“He is a man of destiny not just for the Tamils in Tamil Nadu, but also for the entire Tamil diaspora.”
Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy Farooq Abdullah said though his father and Mr. Karunanidhi had issues with the Centre, both of them fought for them and won.
Actors Rajinikanth, Kamal Haasan, Mammooty and Union Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting and founder of the Peravai Jagathratchagan participated in the function.

In Asal thala plays a dual role with one character as father dealing with international smuggling and the second role as a son.
Aasal (meaning Original) 2010 is directed by Saran. This is Ajith’s 49th film. it is so special because Ajith has given up his title “Ultimate Star”.
Jeevanathan (Ajith) sons are Sam (Sampath Raj), Prasad (Rajeev Krishna) and Shiva (Ajith). Sam and Prasad sideline Shiva all the time. When the elder sons Sam, Prasad decide to strike a deal to sell weapons to a terror group, trouble breaks out. They Cross swords with a Mumbai-based group led by Shetty (Kelly Dorji). The scene-stealer here is Sulabha (Bhavana).There is also Sara (Sameera Reddy), who works in French Embassy and falls for Ajith. Daniel Dharmaraj (Suresh) a French cop who adds twist to the tale. Yuhi Sethu as Don Samosa provides lighter moment in the movie. Only drawback was character in which pradeep Rawat, Prabhu done was so little and storyline was same as old

A R Rahman has bagged two awards at the 52nd Annual Grammy Awards ceremony at Los Angeles on Sunday. This is the first time Rahman has been nominated for a Grammy and he won it on the first time itself.
A R Rahman received awards in the category for best film song and best soundtrack, both for the Oscar-winning film Slumdog Millionaire.
A R Rahman shares the Grammy with lyricist Gulzar who penned “Jai ho”.
In the best song category A R Rahman’s beat Bruce Springsteen for his song “The Wrestler,” from the Oscar-nominated movie of the same name.
An elated A R Rahman said “This is insane, God is great again,” while accepting the award.
A R Rahman won two Oscars, a BAFTA and a Golden Globe last year for his soundtrack for the multi award-winning Slumdog Millionaire.
